Brooklyn family found stabbed to death in apartment, one person in custody

NEW YORK – A New York family is in shock after four of their relatives, including two children, were found dead in their home.

Police arrested a 24-year-old man after he allegedly stabbed and killed two women and two young children in their Brooklyn apartment.

Official confirmation of the relationship between the man and the family is not yet available.

Emergency crews found the bodies after receiving a 911 call about a domestic violence incident at the apartment on the corner of Avenue P and West Eighth Street in Bensonhurst late Friday night.

Police identified the victims as Mavlyuda Fayzieva, 56; Maftuna Khakimova, 27; Kamila Shavkatova, 5, and Timur Shavkatov, 4.

Relatives told CBS New York that Khakimova was the children’s mother and Fayzieva was their mother-in-law.

A family member who wished to remain anonymous told CBS New York that the children’s father was devastated.

“He just said, ‘I don’t have anything left. (The suspect) took everything. My two children, my wife, my mother. He took everything,'” the family member said.

He said he came with his family from Uzbekistan in 2007 and described the four- and five-year-old siblings as dear friends.

Neighbours describe heartbreaking scene after discovery of bodies

Neighbor Juan Perez was awakened early Saturday morning by sobbing outside his bedroom window across the street.

“Here was a man they were trying to console because he just couldn’t stop sobbing. There were several of them, but he must have been the closest to the family,” Perez said.

“I just saw all the cops drive up last night and then I heard someone screaming,” said neighbor Jennifer Ponzi.

“The son screamed that his mother was dead,” said another neighbor.

A neighbor said the family had lived in the building for about 10 years. That neighbor and her mother also came to New York from Uzbekistan and were friends with the 56-year-old grandmother.

“She always helped me. When I was here ten years ago, she always helped me,” said the neighbor.

The investigation is ongoing.
