Brazilian musician dies of electric shock in bizarre accident on stage

I think most people know the famous story of Van Halen asking for a bowl of M&Ms, with the brown ones picked out. This wasn’t because they were difficult, but to make sure the venue read the entire contract.

The idea was that if a venue went so far as to pick through M&Ms, the band could be pretty sure they had also done their due diligence to make sure none of them got injured or—god forbid—electrocuted by an overturned stack of Marshalls.

The latter unfortunately happened to a Brazilian musician earlier this month during a performance in the city of Salinopolis on July 13.

According to The Sun, 35-year-old Ayres Sasaki was performing at a venue called the Solar Hotel, and in the middle of the show, a fan – wearing soaking wet clothes – jumped on stage to hug him.

The big problem, however, seemed to be that the combination of the hug and the wet clothes posed a problem for a nearby cable, because a few seconds after the fan entered the stage, Sasaki was electrocuted.

According to reports, he died instantly.

“We know that his show was scheduled for a certain time and was brought forward, but we are contacting people who were with him at the time to understand how everything happened,” Sasaki’s aunt told local press.

“We will summarize all information in a statement that we will release to the press.”

As if this story couldn’t get any more tragic, it does. Sasaki leaves behind a woman he married less than a year before the incident.

Police are still investigating the incident, but the really strange thing is that no one seems to know how or why the fan who hugged Sasaki was soaking wet.

Man, that’s tragic. One minute you’re strumming your guitar, and the next thing you know, who knows how many volts are flowing through you.
