“Our people (police) went there and tried to arrest him, but he tried to run away. A scuffle ensued and finally he was arrested. When they took him to the police station, they noticed him showing severe signs of dehydration and unwell,” Praveen told PTI.

Although the police took him to the local hospital, the DIG found that doctors could not resuscitate him and declared him dead.

Since the accused died in police custody, charges were brought under the relevant legislation.

Meanwhile, the police have still not been able to find the body of the underage girl.
