Collision with moose causes serious head-on crash in Shirley, eight injured

SHIRLEY – Eight people were injured in a two-vehicle collision involving a moose on Greenville Road Friday night.

At around 9:25 p.m., the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the accident.

A southbound Jeep Cherokee struck a moose, causing the driver to lose control, cross into the oncoming lane, and collide head-on with a northbound Chevy Suburban.

There were a total of four adults and four children between the ages of 5 and 9 in both vehicles.

All injured people were taken to CA Dean Hospital for treatment.

Among the injured was a five-year-old child who was flown by helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center. His condition is said to be serious but stable.

Sheriff’s officers were assisted at the scene by Greenville Police and Fire Departments, as well as Northern Light CA Dean Ambulance.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
