Passengers stranded in ‘every nook and cranny’ of Atlanta airport after global computer outage – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA — Hundreds of people remain stranded at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and other airports across the country after what’s being called the largest computer outage in history.

Airports, banks, hospitals, government agencies and more across the country are still trying to recover from the global outage.

Today, Microsoft said it is working with software maker CrowdStrike, which caused the outage, to find a solution. Hundreds of its engineers are working directly with customers to restore service.

Nationwide, more than 1,600 flights have been canceled. On Saturday alone, more than 630 flights out of Atlanta’s airport were canceled.

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines is the hardest-hit airline with more than 800 flights canceled nationwide.

Channel 2’s Courtney Francisco She was at the world’s busiest airport on Saturday, where she saw people stranded, searching for lost luggage, sleeping, sitting on the floor and more.

She spoke with some passengers who said they had to sleep in the terminal overnight.

“We were at Gate B and there were people lying in every nook and cranny. It was crazy. I travel a lot and I’ve never had to deal with that before. It was really crazy,” said passenger Daniel Delgado.

Some airlines aren’t as reliant on Crowdstrike’s platforms as Delta. American Airlines said Saturday it had only one cancellation in Atlanta and has fully recovered.
