I was never suspended from the Labour Party – Hilda Dokubo

Nollywood actress and politician Hilda Dokubo has denied claims that she has been suspended from the Labour Party (LP).

Gatekeepers News reports that Hilda, in a video posted on her official Instagram account, pointed out that she was never suspended as a member of the Labour Party (LP) in her ward in Asari Toru Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State.

Recall that the LP chairman in Rivers was rumoured to have been suspended on Thursday after the party’s district executive committee held an emergency meeting on July 15.

Her suspension was communicated in a letter to the Asari Toru LP Chairman, signed by the District Chairman Ajalamonia Ibama, Secretary Lole Amacheer and Treasurer Emmanuel Ibamathe.

She was accused of, among other things, financial misconduct, abuse of office and violations of party rules.

Dokubo refuted the allegations, saying: “I was never suspended. All of those in this publication are not members of the Labour Party because the Labour Party has a register and we know all of our members, especially in Asarito Torí, a small community. So these are all PDP boys carrying out the orders of their master.”

“So the question would be why? I have worked in Nollywood for over 30 years without blemish or scandal. I have worked with international organisations for 10 years. Not one day was there any mention of me taking anything. Because in my work, integrity and honour are paramount. These are the things they look at before giving you a job.”

“When you say you’re going into politics, you’re entering murky waters. This is corruption that strikes back. That’s why I’m doing this show, which may just be one of several to come. So let me get ahead of you.”

“My dears, we have work to do. We are doing membership renewal, registering members, and strengthening our communities. Stay focused and don’t get distracted. If people try to bribe you and you refuse to be bribed, they will threaten you and you refuse to be threatened. They will surely look for a way to hurt you.”

“I was never suspended. I had no time to deal with money. We have no money. I am the chairman of the Labour Party in Rivers State, I am not the financial secretary or treasurer, I am not even the managing director of District 3. I think they have missed the point. So we are going back to work.”
