Boothbay accident requires LifeFlight | Wiscasset Newspaper

On July 19 at 8:14 p.m., Lincoln County Emergency Communication received a call for a vehicle rollover with serious injuries at 481 Back Narrows Road in Boothbay.

Boothbay Fire Chief David Pratt was the first to arrive on the scene at 8:18 p.m. and immediately began operations. It was quickly determined that the early model Porsche convertible with a Maine license plate had overturned and the driver was completely trapped.

Boothbay’s Heavy Rescue 1 arrived on scene and firefighters utilized the rescue vehicle’s advanced recovery techniques – rescue shears, vehicle immobilization, stabilization and other safety equipment – to lift the car off the ground and then cut through key parts of the car to allow the driver to be freed.

Boothbay Region Ambulance Service crews attended to the patient and due to the severity of the driver’s injuries, the decision was made to transport him via air ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland for further treatment. The patient was transported from the scene to Boothbay Region High School where air ambulances landed and the patient was loaded into the helicopter and prepared for transport to Portland.

The Boothbay Harbor Fire Department set up the LifeFlight landing zone and provided emergency support for the helicopter operation at the high school athletic field.

The extent of the driver’s injuries is not yet known.

Boothbay Engine 1, Engine 2 and Utility 2 responded to the scene providing additional emergency support and traffic control.

Boothbay Fire Chief David Pratt said, “Given the rollover and the fact that the car was a convertible, firefighters had to perform a complex recovery procedure and work as an integrated team with Boothbay Region Ambulance rescue crews. This allowed us to extricate the patient from the car and quickly transport him to LifeFlight.”

The Lincoln Country Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Team was called in to further investigate the accident. Officers on scene utilized a drone to provide aerial analysis and imagery to assist in the accident investigation.

Due to the complexity and severity of the accident scene, Back Narrows Road remained closed for over three hours and was not reopened until around 11:15 p.m.

The accident is currently being investigated by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
