Maine State Police are investigating two accidents involving police officers

No one was injured, but the state police have summoned the two people responsible for the accident.

Maine State Police are investigating two separate incidents in which officers’ vehicles were struck. Just after midnight on July 19, an officer was en route to Gardiner to respond to a car crash when he was struck on the Maine Turnpike in Lewiston. With its blue lights and sirens on, the officer’s patrol car was struck by a 2015 Ford pickup truck driven by 24-year-old Javier Martinez of Waterville. The pickup truck crossed into the officer’s path, causing minor damage to both vehicles. No one was injured. Police determined Martinez was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was cited for driving under the influence and released pending a court hearing. In another incident, an officer had just finished a traffic stop on Route 1 in Gouldsboro early Friday morning. While the officer’s patrol lights were still on, a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee struck the side of the patrol car. Police say the damage was minor and no one was injured. State police say the driver of the Jeep, 71-year-old Andrew Pratt Cutler, has a history of dealings with police and reported traffic violations. He was cited for illegally passing a stationary emergency vehicle and another incident report will be filed for illegal driving.
