HÀ NỘI – The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced on July 20 a temporary suspension of all tournaments organized by the VFF due to the national mourning.

The national football association quoted a special announcement from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the President, the Government and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, which said that Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng died on July 19, 2024 at the Central Military Hospital 108 in Hà Nội.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party, the National Assembly, the President, the Government and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have decided to hold the funeral of the late Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng in accordance with national etiquette.

During the two days of national mourning on July 25 and 26, national flags will fly at half-mast over government offices and public places, and leisure and entertainment activities will be suspended.

The VFF management has decided that tournaments, including the National Women’s Football Championship, the National U21 Championship qualifying round, the National U17 Championship and the National U16 Girls’ Championship will be temporarily suspended from 20 July 2024 until further notice.

In addition to football, several other sporting activities will also be postponed, such as the 2024 Northside Pro-Am Basketball Championship and the semifinals of Muay Thai Rampage x Road To ONE: Vietnam.
