A Russian man was arrested along with a South African for illegal drug trafficking in the country’s Western Cape province, police said on Saturday.

On Friday evening, police seized 14 bags of cocaine worth 252 million rand (almost $14 million) in Still Bay, nearly 350 kilometers southeast of Cape Town.

Officers spotted the suspects’ car after receiving a tip-off about suspicious activity near the city’s port, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said in a statement.

“The vehicle sped away and a chase ensued. The police stopped the vehicle, a Toyota Pajero, where the occupants got out and fled into the bushes,” before they were finally caught.

Investigations have been launched into this matter.

“The suspects, a 48-year-old man from Gauteng and a 39-year-old Russian national, remain in police custody,” SAPS said.

Once charges are filed against the couple, they will appear in court, authorities said.
