Man killed by police in southwest Houston after threatening people with knives and approaching police

A man was shot by police after he threatened people with a knife and escalated a situation with the police.

Ban Tien, deputy police chief of HPD, spoke to the media and provided information about the incident.

At around 11:24 a.m. Saturday morning, Houston Police were notified of a man threatening someone with a knife. Moments later, additional calls came in reporting that the same man was threatening others.

When officers arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect, he ran across Westheimer Street toward a cemetery. Police surrounded the suspect and attempted to deescalate the situation. The man ignored their instructions and approached officers, prompting officers to fire shots.

Three officers were involved in the shooting.

HPD officials are still working to identify the suspect, but have confirmed he is a Hispanic man in his early 20s.
