Houston and head coach Willie Fritz continue to shake up Big 12 recruiting

The Big 12 Conference may not know it yet, but there is a candidate on the recruiting trail in the form of new Houston head coach Willie Fritz.

Fritz, who was hired to replace Dana Holgorsen, has succeeded at every stage of his career and is getting his first opportunity at the Power Four level at age 64 — and he’s doing it in what may be the most fertile recruiting ground in the country.

Houston picked up another win on the recruiting trail with a commitment from Bunkie (La.) High School cornerback Kyle Johnson on July 13. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Johnson totaled 1,031 all-purpose yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior in 2023, including a school-record 10 touchdown receptions.

From 247Sports: “Talented athlete with multi-sport experience and three-sport athleticism. Plays larger than listed. Has solid athleticism proven in the form of a 10.90 100 and a 22.16 200… Could realistically play both ways in college, as well as multiple positions in high school.”
