Man from Swan Pond, Kentucky, found dead after ATV accident

From the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Kentucky –

On Saturday morning, July 20, 2024, 911 in Knox County received a call that a man had been found dead after being trapped under an ATV.

Family members of the man said they spoke to him around 2:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon and he said he was on his way to get some wood. They had not heard from him since and began searching for him, which lasted all night.

It was located on Rufus Mills Ridge, near Ky South 11, in the Barbourville area.

On Saturday morning, Knox County Police Deputy Jeremiah Williams and Knox County Coroner Deputy Mike Trent responded and identified the man as 59-year-old James E. Vaugh of Swan Pond.

Lt. Sam Mullins is leading the investigation.
