Teenager in hospital after Harrison shooting

A group of teenagers were shot multiple times after they knocked on the door of a home in Harrison and ran away.

HARRISON, Maine – A teenager is hospitalized after a man allegedly shot at a group of teens playing “Ding-Dong-Ditch” in Harrison early Saturday morning.

Shortly after 1 a.m., police responded to reports of multiple gunshots and screams heard in the area of ​​Waterford Road and Depot Street, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said in a news release.

At the scene, officers discovered blood on the road. At the same time, the Cumberland County Regional Communications Center received a report from Bridgton Hospital about a gunshot victim who stopped by without an appointment, the press release said.

An investigation revealed that a group of teenagers had been playing “ding-dong-ditch,” which means ringing people’s doorbells and running away. The teenagers reportedly approached 91 Waterford Road, knocked on the door and ran away.

“The resident of 91 Waterford Road, later identified as 30-year-old Vincent Martin of Harrison, pulled out a handgun and fired multiple times at the teens, striking one victim in the right calf, causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” the release said.

Officials said Martin was located at his home and arrested. He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and charged with the following:

  • Aggravated assault, a Class A felony
  • Aggravated reckless conduct, a class B felony
  • Discharge of a firearm near a dwelling, a Class E misdemeanor
  • Discharge of a firearm across a path, a Class E misdemeanor

Martin is being held on $10,000 bail, the press release said.

Officials said the victim, whose identity is not being released at this time, is in “stable condition” at Bridgton Hospital.

As a result of the incident, Waterford Road and Depot Street were closed for several hours.

The CCSO Criminal Investigations Division, CCSO Drone Team, Bridgton Police, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Harrison Fire Department and Waterford Fire Department assisted.

The investigations are still ongoing.
