Accident under investigation after man dies from fire on his motorcycle in collision with police officer

Marshfield, Missouri – A man was killed in a car accident when his vehicle caught fire in a collision between two vehicles.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report, the accident occurred on July 19, 2024 at 6:57 p.m. on MO 38 in Marshfield, Missouri. A trooper, 38-year-old Timothy Stuart of Mansfield, was turning onto MO 38 in a 2023 Ford F150 when he was struck on the driver’s side of the vehicle by an oncoming motorcycle. Stuart’s vehicle and the oncoming motorcycle caught fire in the crash. Stuart sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for treatment. 29-year-old Alexander Reed of Elkland was driving the motorcycle that caught fire and was fatally injured. The Webster County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

The accident is currently under investigation. The Marshfield Police Chief stated that the motorcycle had been reported stolen and was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the accident. He also suspects that it is the same person who was involved in a recent chase.

This is Troop D’s 51st fatality of 2024. The accident was investigated by Trooper AM James, Crash Team Corporal TR Wright, Trooper SJ Hallam and Trooper NL Vines of Troop D.
