Transgender complains of sexual abuse of youth under pretext of marriage in Solan, investigation underway

Solan (Himachal Pradesh):A transgender woman from Punjab has filed a police complaint against a youth from Himachal Pradesh who allegedly sexually abused her under the pretext of marriage. The complainant claims that she even underwent sex reassignment surgery to marry the youth, but he refused.

In a complaint filed at the women’s police station in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, the transgender person stated that she had befriended the youth from Solan district through social media. She said that she had told the youth everything about her transsexuality, but the youth continued to talk to her.

Then the young man began to establish a physical relationship with her, trying to persuade her to marry him. When she asked the young man to complete the formalities of a civil marriage, he refused.

The victim then lodged a complaint with the Punjab Women’s Cell. She underwent a sex change operation and again approached the youth, who now rejected her on the grounds that his family did not agree to the marriage.

Some time later, she learned of the teenager’s engagement and immediately tried to contact him and his family. But despite repeated attempts to reach them by phone, her calls remained unanswered.

DSP Women of Baddi police station, Lakhbir, said that the complainant hailed from Punjab and the youth was a resident of Barotiwala area in Baddi.

“The allegations are being investigated. Only after a medical examination can it be confirmed whether she has undergone sex change surgery or not. Two teams have been set up to investigate the matter. One team is conducting investigations at the local level and the other has been sent to Punjab,” the DSP said.
