Aliko Dangote calls on Nigeria to stop importing diesel and aviation fuel

“This is not good for the country’s energy security and not good for the markets in terms of monopolies,” Farouk Ahmed, head of Nigeria’s Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Agency, told reporters. He explained that the refinery was still in the pre-commissioning phase and did not yet have a license, and that dependence on a single refinery for national supply would encourage monopolies and jeopardise energy security. Ahmed’s comments come in response to allegations by Dangote Industries Limited that the IOCs were making it difficult for them to access local crude oil and forcing them to use middlemen and pay inflated prices.
