US teacher allegedly sent sexually explicit photos to teenagers

A former teacher at Saint Mary Magdalen School in Wilmington, Delaware, has been accused of sending explicit photos to a former student. According to the New York Post, Alanis Pinion, a 24-year-old eighth-grade teacher, was arrested by New Castle County police on Thursday.

According to New Castle County police, Pinion regularly communicated with her students via Snapchat and allegedly behaved inappropriately by sending explicit images to one of them.

She was charged with sexual battery of a child, endangering the welfare of a child and creating a public nuisance. Pinion was arraigned and committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution after failing to pay $46,000 bail.

A spokesman for Saint Mary Magdalen School said NBC10 that Pinion was a part-time contractor and is no longer associated with the school.

“Earlier this week, the school was contacted by New Castle County Police to inform us of an investigation and ultimately the arrest of a former part-time contract employee in connection with allegations of electronically exchanging inappropriate images with a former student,” the school wrote.

“The contractor successfully completed the required background check prior to employment. The school, parish and our diocesan officials assisted police in their investigation. Please be assured that all of us at Saint Mary Magdalen Parish and School, as well as our partners in the Diocese of Wilmington, always keep the safety of our children and youth as our top priority,” the school continued.

Meanwhile, the police department is concerned that there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward, their statement said. Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact Detective Daniel Watson.

Last month, a special education teacher at a New Jersey middle school was arrested for an alleged sexual relationship with a student, authorities said. Allison Havemann-Niedrach, 43, of Freehold Intermediate School, was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Monmouth County District Attorney Raymond S. Santiago announced.
