Freight train bogies derail, rail traffic between Pakistan and Iran interrupted

CHAGAI: Pakistan-Iran railway services were suspended after three bogies of a freight train derailed near here, ARY News reported.

Railway authorities have said that train services between Pakistan and Iran have been suspended, adding that the railway rescue team has launched a relief operation.

Recently, rail traffic to Iran was suspended after a train derailed near Dalbandin in Balochistan.

Railway officials said three bogies of the freight train had derailed from the tracks.

The train was travelling from Taftan to Quetta when the incident occurred.

Last year, rail traffic between Pakistan and Iran was suspended following heavy rains in the region.

Rail freight traffic from Quetta to Iran and from Iran to Quetta was later resumed.

The track system was flooded by the rain, causing freight train traffic to come to a standstill.

“A freight train carrying sulphur cargo from Iran was stopped midway,” officials added. “A train from Quetta to Iran was also stopped in Dalbandin.”

Train traffic between the two neighboring countries was previously mostly suspended due to the poor railway infrastructure, which regularly led to derailments.
