Israel’s war on Gaza live: Wave of attacks as Israel is urged to end occupation | News on the Israel-Palestine conflict

Al Jazeera spoke to former Israeli Justice Minister Yossi Beilin about the International Court of Justice ruling that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal and must end.

Here’s more from Beilin:

“The government is the most right-wing ever and many ministers – especially from the far right – believe that Israel can live without the world. And everything that is said about us, about conquest, occupation or whatever, is biased and they can never accept it,” Beilin told Al Jazeera.

“I must admit that I did not identify with all parts of today’s (ICJ) decision. There were some things I can accept, others I cannot accept,” Beilin said.

“I would say no, we don’t need to be there. We shouldn’t be there. I mean, if we stay in the territories – the West Bank and Gaza – it means Israel will never be a Jewish state,” he said.

“I am an Israeli patriot. I am a Zionist, and staying in the territories is against Zionism and any notion of Israel as a Jewish, democratic state.”
