Friends and family gathered in Pomona Friday night for a vigil to remember the mother of six who was killed in a hit-and-run crash on July 5. The driver is still at large.

Carol Fuentes, 57, was on her way home from gambling at the Morongo Casino when she was involved in a three-vehicle crash caused by the driver of a Ford Expedition at the intersection of Garey Avenue and Orange Grove Avenue around 9 p.m., according to police.

Fuentes, who suffered a traumatic brain injury, was among four people taken to hospital. The driver of the Expedition fled the scene.

Fuentes succumbed to her injuries ten days later.

“Carol was a beloved mother, wife, sister, grandmother and friend to many whose lives she touched deeply,” wrote Alex Fuentes, who organized a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her funeral expenses. “We are devastated by this unexpected loss.”

“Losing a mother is very hard because she is the foundation of our family,” Andy Diaz, Carol’s son, told KTLA’s Rick Chambers at Friday’s vigil. “She is the one who loves us and brings love and joy to everyone.”

Anyone with information regarding this accident is asked to call the Pomona Police Department Traffic Division at (909) 802-7741 or (909) 620-2048.
