Investigations into the suspicious disappearance of a woman from Enosburgh continue

INCIDENT SUMMARY:

Teams from multiple agencies searched for 82-year-old Roberta Martin of Enosburgh throughout Friday. Members of the Vermont State Police, including the Crime Scene Search Team, executed a search warrant Friday morning for a home and property adjacent to Ms. Martin’s home on Butternut Hollow Road. She had not been located as of 11:10 p.m.

Meanwhile, investigators continue to conduct interviews and search for evidence. The Victim Services Unit is assisting Ms. Martin’s family. The available information continues to indicate that her disappearance is suspicious.

Dozens of search and rescue personnel from the Vermont State Police and other agencies have searched on foot more than 600 acres around Ms. Martin’s home. Detectives will remain on site and work the case through the weekend.

Vermont State Police are urging the public to remain vigilant during the investigation. While there is currently no indication that the community is at risk, people should still take appropriate precautions, such as locking their front doors and vehicles and keeping an eye on their surroundings.

The search for missing person Roberta Martin was completed at approximately 9:30 p.m. Thursday. She has not been found. Vermont State Police and supporting agencies will return to the scene at approximately 9:00 a.m. Friday, July 19.

***Update No. 1, 3:15 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024***

The search for Roberta Martin continued through the night and will continue into Thursday afternoon. Responders are concentrating on the area around Ms. Martin’s home on Butternut Hollow Road in Enosburgh. The Vermont State Police Crime Scene Search Team is searching Ms. Martin’s home and property, and investigators from the Major Crime Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigations are conducting interviews, collecting evidence and following up on possible leads.

Investigators have received information that suggests Ms. Martin’s disappearance is suspicious. To ensure the integrity of the investigation, VSP cannot comment further at this time on the evidence that led to this conclusion.

State Police would like to speak with anyone who passed through the area of ​​Sand Hill Road and Butternut Hollow Road between 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 16 and noon Wednesday, July 17 who may have relevant information. VSP has received several tips regarding people walking or jogging in the area during this time period and detectives are attempting to identify and interview anyone matching that description. Mrs Martin is said to be in good physical and mental health.

The Vermont State Police Search and Rescue Team, K-9 Unit, Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program, and uniformed police officers from the Field Force Division are involved in the search efforts. The Victim Services Unit is also involved. Other agencies involved include the Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife, New England K9 Search and Rescue, and the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team. The Enosburgh Fire Department and Enosburgh Rescue are providing logistical support and assistance. The Franklin County District Attorney’s Office is actively involved.

VSP is aware of numerous false reports and potential scam or spam posts on social media related to this investigation. The public is advised that the only source for the release of official information is the Vermont State Police.

Maj. Dan Trudeau, commander of the Vermont State Police Criminal Investigation Division, will be available to speak with members of the media at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at the Enosburgh Fire Department, 83 Sampsonville Rd.

Vermont State Police are investigating a missing person case involving 82-year-old Roberta Martin of Enosburgh. Martin last had telephone contact with her family around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, and has not been heard from since. Neighbors reported her missing to state police around 11:55 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, after they went to check on her and found she was not at her home on Butternut Hollow Road. The circumstances of Martin’s disappearance are under investigation and there are concerns for her welfare.

A description of the clothing is not currently available. Martin is approximately 5’1″ tall and weighs 115 lbs. She has white hair and brown eyes. A photo of her is attached to this press release.

Police and detectives are actively pursuing leads, and special teams such as VSP’s canine unit and unmanned aircraft systems program are involved in the search. Citizens may notice an increased police presence near Martin’s home on Butternut Hollow Road.
