Four people arrested for car and gun theft in Adams County

ADAMS COUNTY, Mississippi (WJTV) – Four people were arrested in Adams County for the alleged theft of two vehicles, hunting equipment, weapons and household appliances.

Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said officers were called to a home on Foster Mound Road on July 4 for a burglary.

Later that evening, officers found the suspected stolen Chevrolet truck on Rainbow Street. They also discovered several weapons on the front seat. Officers had the truck towed and confiscated the weapons.

Patten said officers observed one of the suspects at a home on Kaiser Lake Road on July 16. When she saw officers, Nancy Evans began throwing items into the woods, according to the sheriff. She was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Investigators said drug paraphernalia and 10 grams of methamphetamine were found on Evans.

Witnesses told officers that Joseph Partridge was hiding in a mobile home on the same property where Evans was arrested. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants and was arrested.

Patten said officers located two other suspects, Jonathan Newman and Vicki Byrnes, on Rainbow Street on July 18. Both were wanted for questioning. Investigators said they were able to find evidence linking Byrnes and Newman to the burglary.

According to the sheriff, investigators were able to seize a .22 caliber Derringer pistol, a Smith & Wesson 9 mm, an M-1 carbine rifle, compound bows, a crossbow, the Chevrolet truck, a Spanish revolver, a Ruger 6 mm rifle and an illegally “sawed-off” Remington shotgun at various locations in the county.

Byrnes was charged with burglary and grand larceny. Newman was charged with burglary and two counts of grand larceny. Partridge was charged with a warrant for FTA, burglary and two counts of grand larceny. Evans was charged with a warrant for harboring a fugitive and possession of a Schedule II drug, including methamphetamine, with the intent to traffic.

Patten said officers are still following up on leads and trying to locate a few more guns and a stolen Toyota pickup truck. The truck is a 1987 model, white with a red tailgate and tube bumpers.
