Accident on I55 today: Michael Thrasher died in collision on Bluff Road near Channahon, say Illinois State Police and the Will Co. Coroner.

CHANNAHON, Ill. (WLS) – At least one person was killed in a traffic accident on Interstate 55 near the southern suburb of Channahon on Thursday evening, officials said.

According to the Illinois State Police, a pickup truck collided with a bobtail truck on I-55 northbound near Bluff Road shortly after 11 p.m.

A Channahon man was taken to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Will County coroner’s office identified him as 36-year-old Michael W. Thrasher.

The video shows a vehicle in the median ditch with significant damage. I-55 northbound was closed at Bluff Road until about 4:30 a.m.

Investigations into the causes of the crash are ongoing.
