Large building fire in northwest Joplin; Joplin Fire Marshal investigating | Joplin News First

JOPLIN, Missouri (KOAM) – Shortly after 6:30 p.m., reports of a structure fire at 305 N Connor alerted Joplin E-911.

The Joplin Fire Department, Joplin Police Department and METS ambulance responded.

Upon arrival, flames were reported shooting through the roof.

We were near 20th Street and Malang, about 4 miles away, and could see smoke rising over the west side of Joplin.

When the Joplin Fire Department arrived, it was explained that it was a defensive attack because they were laying cables.

Ladder 1 was thrown into the air to fight the flames and jumped 15 feet into the air. Then Engine 2 fired its deck gun and began firing a high-pressure jet into the flames below. The deck gun also hurled pieces of paneling and wood all over the street.

It is believed that the building was vacant. It appears to be a large warehouse that used to house a commercial business. It has an old loading dock.

Assistant Chief Andy Nimmo told KOAM’s Shannon Becker at the scene that 18 firefighters from Station 1 and others were on scene.

He says no firefighters or citizens were injured.

The Joplin Fire Marshal was called to investigate.
