Trade for AL East star would be ‘dream’ scenario for Houston Astros

The MLB trade deadline is approaching. Teams have until July 30 at 6:00 PM EST to make trades. One team that has become very interesting to watch is the Houston Astros.

At one point earlier this season, the Astros seemed doomed. Injuries were piling up and it seemed unlikely they would be able to contend for a playoff spot.

Despite all the problems they’ve faced this season, Houston holds a 50-46 record and is just one game behind the Seattle Mariners in the American League West.

With that in mind, the Astros have a chance to improve at the trade deadline. There have been rumors and whispers that they could be interested in a blockbuster trade.

As the deadline approaches, Houston has two major needs that must be addressed: first base and starting pitchers.

When it comes to first base specifically, there have been a few major trade targets linked to the Astros. Two of them are Christian Walker and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Zachary Rotman of FanSided named Guerrero, in particular, the “dream target” for Houston.

Guerrero would certainly be a perfect fit for the Astros. He would give them a much better chance to compete this season, while also being a potential face of the franchise for years to come.

Halfway through the season, Guerrero has played in 95 games, hitting .288/.359/.456 with 14 home runs and 55 RBIs.

A trade for Guerrero would come with a long-term contract extension. Houston would have to pay more to keep the star first baseman for years to come. A new contract and a high trade price would be well worth acquiring Guerrero.

If the Astros were able to acquire Guerrero, they would be getting one of the best hitters in baseball. He’s only 25 years old. That’s the kind of win teams dream of making today and in the future.

That being said, it will be interesting to see what happens at the trade deadline. Houston will be actively looking to add talent. If Guerrero is available, they will likely be one of the teams interested in acquiring him.
