El Paso resident killed in head-on collision on I-25 in Sierra County

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso man was killed in a head-on collision involving two trucks on Interstate 25 in southern New Mexico late Thursday evening, July 18, according to New Mexico State Police.

Both drivers were killed in the crash, which occurred just before 11 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 25 near Miler Marker 59 in Sierra County, state police said. That’s about 20 miles south of Truth or Consequences.

One of the drivers was identified as Adrian Alejandro Cruz of El Paso; his age was not given. The other driver was not identified.

Preliminary investigations indicate a truck was traveling north on Interstate 25 when it struck a moose in the middle of the roadway, New Mexico State Police said.

The collision caused the northbound truck to veer to the left, break through the center barrier and enter the southbound lane, where it collided with the truck driven by Cruz, state police said.

The impact caused both trucks to catch fire and burn completely, state police said.

The New Mexico State Police continues to investigate the accident.
