Atlanta mother found dead after son and brother shot

Her death occurred just two years after her teenage son and brother were found shot to death.

ATLANTA – The mother of a 13-year-old boy found shot to death in DeKalb County in 2022 has now been found dead in Atlanta, the boy’s father told 11Alive Friday.

Atlanta police issued a missing person report for 35-year-old Chanell Crosby on Thursday night. She said she was last seen by her family on July 14 between 3 and 9 p.m. Police said their investigation revealed she may have been in the Macon area.

However, during an interview with 11Alive’s Cody Alcorn on Friday, Jamiren’s father, Don Wilson, said he received a call from police informing him that Chanell’s body had been found.

MARTA police told 11Alive that one of their officers was stopped around 2 p.m. for a car emitting a foul odor in the area of the West End MARTA station. When the officer went over, they found a body in the back seat of the car. Police have not yet identified the body as Chanell Crosby, although it has been confirmed by the family.

Both MARTA police and Atlanta police are currently on the scene investigating the death. The car was found about nine miles from Chanell’s home, Wilson said.

Chanell’s death came nearly two years after her son, 13-year-old Jamiren Crosby, was found behind a rowhouse on Parkway Trail in Lithonia on September 19, 2022. His death was ruled a homicide, and nearly two years later, there have still been no arrests in his case.

Chanell’s tragic and heartbreaking loss of her son Jamiren was actually not the first devastating death in her family this year. On April 20, 2022, Chanell’s brother Darrio “Polo” Giles was found shot to death in the Seven Court Apartments on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW.

Polo’s family told 11Alive at the time that he had just won about $4,000 on a progressive slot machine and believed the killer was after that money. They said that the morning he was found, the money was also gone.

Atlanta police later said their preliminary investigation revealed his death was the result of an attempted robbery.
