Rape: Man rapes minor and is sentenced to 20 years in prison | News from Kanpur

Kanpur: Additional Special Pocso Act/Additional Sessions Judge Court No. XIII Surendra Pal Singh on Friday convicted one Dheeraj Sonker for assaulting a minor girl and sentenced him to 20 years of hard labor and a fine of Rs 5 lakh. The presiding judge in his verdict also observed that if the accused fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve an additional jail term of four months. The time spent in jail during the trial will be counted towards the sentence. According to Special Public Prosecutor Chandrakant Sharma, the victim, a resident of Maharajpur police station, was six years old when she was physically assaulted. On June 28, 2022, while she was playing outside her house, she entered a mango grove near a primary school where one Dheeraj Sonker picked her up on the pretext of offering her mangoes and sexually assaulted her. The victim had described the ordeal in his statement recorded to the police and also in court.
