Woman raped and beaten in Flushing |

A 53-year-old woman was beaten and raped in downtown Flushing last weekend, New York police said.

On Sunday, July 14, at around 10:45 p.m., the woman was inside a commercial building near 40th and Main Streets when an unidentified man struck her multiple times in the face and head before violently raping her, the NYPD said. The man then fled on foot to unknown areas.

The woman’s condition was stable and she was taken to a nearby hospital.

Police have provided media with a photo of the suspected perpetrator exiting a subway station turnstile. It is not immediately clear when the photo was taken in connection with the incident, nor is it clear which station it was taken in, as the NYPD press office was unable to retrieve further information due to the CrowdStrike outage on Friday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1 (888) 57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit tips by logging on to nypdcrimestoppers.com, texting 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577, or by going to @nypdtips on X.
