Young Cuban model in Bolivia seeks financial help after motorcycle accident

A young Cuban model residing in Bolivia is involved in a motorcycle accident and his family and friends are urgently looking for financial support to cover his medical costs. The young man named Josehas already had two operations and another is planned for next week.

“He comes from Cuba and is only in the country with his brother, who is also very young,” said Guardia Carrasco Yesceniaa businesswoman and employee at Mister Teen Internationalon Facebook. “We are raising money to pay his medical bills. Any financial contribution is appreciated,” she added.

José’s mother, Yoleinnia Salomlives in the United Statesexplained that the upcoming surgery on her son’s leg involves the removal of pins and the insertion of an intramedullary tibial nail. “I have already mentioned that healthcare in Bolivia is very expensive, even for us who live in the United States, it is not enough to cover such costly treatments. The nail alone costs between $900 and $1,000,” she explained on her Facebook profile.

Yoleinnia clarified that despite the help of many people, José has to buy almost 80% of everything he needs – syringes, medicines, antibiotics, gauze – himself. “They give us the prescription and we have to buy it at the pharmacy near us. That’s how it works in Bolivian hospitals,” she noted.

The young man was initially operated on for a pneumothorax. He also suffered an open fracture in his leg, which was treated with external rods.
