The WWE star’s finisher name was a misunderstood coincidence

WWE NXT star Tatum Paxley is known as a highly unusual and captivating wrestler for the Black and Gold brand. Paxley recently revealed the origins of her Psycho Trap finishing move and revealed that it wasn’t originally going to be called that.

Tatum Paxley has been using the Psycho Trap as a finisher since October 2023, debuting it at NXT Level Up. During a recent Twitch stream with her real-life partner Javier Bernal, the NXT star revealed that the finisher’s name was inspired by the horror film Saw.

It was originally going to be named after a specific trap from the movie. Paxley explained that the move was originally called Cycle Trap, based on the spiral blade trap in Saw.

“The Cycle Trap from Saw is the saw trap that the boy was lowered into, and it had spiral blades – it’s called a Cycle Trap.”

Paxley further explained that because of her role in NXT, people might have assumed she called it Psycho Trap, but she clarified that she actually called it Cycle Trap.

“And the funny thing is, I said, ‘I’d like to call this Cycle Trap.’ And the assumption was, of course, that I must have said ‘Psycho.’ So, Psycho Trap, that’s where the name came from. But I said Cycle. But Psycho Trap, hell yeah, I love it.”

On the July 16 episode of WWE NXT, Paxley defeated Izzi Dame with the Psycho Trap finisher. She also crossed the finish line on June 14 and faced Jordynne Grace for the TNA Knockouts World Championship at Against All Odds, but was unable to capture the title. With her current run in NXT, the future looks bright for the captivating Superstar, so it will be interesting to follow her path moving forward.
