Impact of massive IT outage on Connecticut – NBC Connecticut

A large-scale Microsoft outage linked to cybersecurity company Crowdstrike that paralyzed flights, banks, media and businesses around the world is having an impact in Connecticut.

State Government

A note on the state’s website says some systems are offline.

Governor Ned Lamont said the state’s IT staff had been working to resolve the outages since Thursday evening.

The state’s social services department said resource centers will be closed to the public today. Statewide IT is working on the problem, it said.

“The State of Connecticut is addressing some of the impacts of the global CrowdStrike incident,” the state’s website states.

“This is not a cyberattack. Some systems and computers remain offline and are being restored. State employees experiencing technical issues should report it to their service desk or help desk. We do not currently have a timeline for full recovery,” the statement said.

Impact on police departments

Some police departments in Connecticut were affected.

State police said some of their computers were working, but others were not. Additionally, state police officers were ordered to bring notepads to write things down.

South Windsor Police also said there had been some issues but that everything was now OK; the 911 emergency number was never affected and the call center remained largely operational.

Police departments in West Hartford and Hartford said their 911 systems were not affected.

From flights to police departments, how the widespread Microsoft outage related to cybersecurity company Crowdstrike is affecting Connecticut.

Hospitals

Yale New Haven Health and Lawrence + Memorials Hospital said they were operating normally and had no issues.

UConn Health also said there are no major problems.

“UConn Health operations continue within these restrictions and our patients are safe. Our departments across the organization are evaluating what resources are functional and where manual intervention is needed to ensure the continuation of safe care. Our IT staff is aware of the issue and is working to restore. We do not have an estimated timeline,” UConn Health said in a statement.

Flights

The Connecticut Airport Authority said Bradley Airport is aware of the statewide problem and is closely monitoring the situation.

Passengers are advised to check flight status with their airline.

Some flights have already taken off, but there are still numerous delays and cancellations on Thursday morning.

American Airlines kiosks are working and they were able to print boarding passes.

Breeze Airways does not have kiosks and cannot print boarding passes, so the company attempts to check in passengers manually.

Rail transport

Metro North posted on X that some MTA customer information systems are temporarily offline due to a worldwide technical outage, but train and bus service is unaffected.
