Lagos police receive test results of teenager allegedly raped by police officer

The result of the medical examination of the 17-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by a policeman of Area H Command in Ogudu local government area of the state is in.

State police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed this to PUNCH Online on Friday.

Hundeyin said the result had been handed over to the police for further investigation into the incident.

He said: “The test result. It has been handed over to the police and the investigation is ongoing.”

Hundeyin, who did not disclose the result of the test, added: “There will be another update soon.”

Checks by our correspondent revealed that the test was conducted at the Mirabel Centre.

The police photo maker said in a statement Sunday that the officer, whose identity has not yet been released, had been taken into custody.

PUNCH City Round reported on Saturday that the victim alleged that she was raped at Ogudu Police Station in Ojota State.

Our correspondent learnt that the officer had promised the youth to help her return her phone, which was stolen by Mayfly on June 16 while she was returning from Ikeja with her grandmother and siblings.

The suspect allegedly heard the teenager recounting the ordeal to her mother at her store and offered to help track down her missing phone and take her statement.

The victim also stated that she was invited to the suspect’s office under the pretext of picking up her phone, but that the suspect committed the alleged crime.

The victim’s mother, Aramide Olupona, had stated that her daughter started bleeding a day after the attack and was taken to the Mirabel Centre, adding that the incident had also been reported to the authorities.

Olupona, however, accused the police of trying to sweep the case under the carpet: “The suspect’s wife and the rest of his family came to my shop and begged me. He would soon retire, but what about my daughter who was raped? Is it because I am a poor woman?”

Hundeyin added in his reaction that the alleged act violated the police code of conduct and therefore assured the victim’s family and the public that there was no attempt to cover up the incident.

He said: “The Lagos State Police have arrested one of their officers accused of raping a 17-year-old girl. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has ordered a full and thorough investigation into the allegation.

“The Command assures the public that there is no attempt at cover-up as such heinous acts are contrary to the code of conduct and professional ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.

“For this reason, CP Fayoade once again assures Nigerians that if found guilty, the officer will be punished according to police regulations and the law.”
