Bangladesh police: Senior opposition leader arrested in Dhaka

Bangladeshi police arrested one of the country’s highest-ranking opposition leaders in the capital Dhaka on Friday, police spokesman Faruk Hossain told AFP, after days of deadly nationwide unrest.

There are “hundreds of cases” pending against Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Hossain said, without giving further details on the reasons for his arrest.
