Houston Daily Thunderstorm Risks Over Weekend

Friday forecast:

There is a 60% chance of thunderstorms on Friday. These storms could bring frequent lightning and heavy rain! Temperatures are climbing into the 80s due to clouds and rain.

The front will stall:

A front is expected to stall in Southeast Texas, increasing the chance of rain Friday and continuing through the weekend. I wouldn’t cancel any plans this weekend, but be aware that you’ll want to check the radar before you leave. If there is a collapse, it would be Monday. A flood threat for all of Southeast Texas is in place that day.

In the footsteps of the tropics:

There is no tropical activity in the Gulf, Caribbean or Atlantic Ocean. Saharan dust has been very abundant across much of the tropical Atlantic, keeping things very quiet.

Another factor keeping the tropics calm is the presence of huge Saharan dust patches which help to smother any development of tropical waves at this point.

Heavy rain is expected from Friday to Wednesday, with periods of intermittent heavy rain. This rainfall may cause street flooding. The increased rainfall means lower than normal temperatures.
