Trump pays tribute to firefighter killed at his rally during RNC

Before his highly anticipated speech at the Republican National Convention, former President Donald Trump paid his last respects to the man who was shot dead at his rally on Saturday.

Corey Comperatore, 50, was the former fire chief of Buffalo Township. His helmet and uniform with the word “Buffalo” on it were placed on the stage as Trump began his speech. The former president kissed Comperatore’s helmet before calling for a moment of silence.

The jacket, however, contained a spelling mistake, but his family admitted they knew about the spelling error. His last name is spelled “Compertore” on the jacket instead.

Comperatore’s family told ABC News they gave the jacket to Trump’s people for tonight, which matches the one seen outside the Pennsylvania firehouse after his death.

According to his obituary, Comperatore worked as a project and tool engineer, was an Army reservist, and after his time as chief, worked for many years as a volunteer firefighter.

According to US intelligence, he was shot dead at a Trump rally last week after 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on Trump and the crowd, wounding the former president and two other people.
