Drone attack on Israel’s Tel Aviv leaves one dead and at least ten injured | News

The Israeli military says it is investigating a suspected drone attack and why the country’s defenses failed to intercept the “air target.”

Yemeni Houthi fighters have reportedly claimed responsibility for a suspected drone attack on Israel’s Tel Aviv that killed one person and injured at least ten.

A spokesman for the Houthi forces said in a social media post on Friday that the Yemen-based group had “targeted Tel Aviv in occupied Palestine.”

The Israeli military said it had launched an investigation into the large explosion near the US embassy in the city and would determine why the country’s air defense systems were not activated to intercept the “air target”.

The Israeli Air Force has increased its patrols to “protect the country’s skies,” the military added in a social media post.

Israeli police said they had found the body of a man in an apartment near the site of the explosion and were investigating the circumstances.

Footage from the blast site showed broken glass on the sidewalks, while crowds of onlookers gathered near a building with blast scars. The area was cordoned off with police tape.

To demonstrate their support for the Palestinians in Israel’s war on Gaza, the Yemeni Houthis have repeatedly fired drones and missiles at Israel and Israeli-affiliated ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

Until the attack in the early hours of Friday, all attempts by the Houthis to attack Israel had been intercepted either by Israeli defenses or by Western allies stationed in the region, the Associated Press reported.

Hezbollah in southern Lebanon has also increased its attacks on military targets in northern Israel, saying it was also acting in solidarity with the Palestinians in light of Israel’s war on Gaza, which has killed nearly 39,000 people.
