Two women have been arrested and face first-degree murder charges in connection with a homicide last week at Martin Landing Campground in Canyon County.

Melissa Fay Calumpit, 35, and Rosalie Lynn Morris, 59, were arrested Thursday and taken to the Canyon County Jail, according to a news release from the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office. Both women are from Battle Ground, Nevada, a community in the north of the state between Winnemucca and Elko on Highway 80, the sheriff’s office said.

Arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday in Canyon County District Court. They are accused of first-degree murder in a July 12 shooting at Martin Landing, a camping and recreation area at the confluence of the Snake and Boise rivers near Parma.

According to a previous press release from the sheriff’s office, on July 12 at around 9:30 p.m., dispatch received a report of a man who was unconscious and not breathing in Martin Landing.

When officers arrived, they found a man dead. The CCSO crime lab and investigators responded to the scene and based on the circumstances and evidence collected, the Sheriff’s Office determined this was a homicide.

The original news release said the victim was about 40 years old. A coroner’s report earlier this week determined the victim was 37-year-old Calumpit. The coroner said Calumpit was from Parma and died of a gunshot wound.

The sheriff’s office declined to comment on the woman’s connections to the victim.
