Inmate killed in violent incident at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn

Cordero was awaiting transfer to another federal prison to serve a 24-month sentence for violating the terms of his parole.

Edwin Cordero, 36, died after several inmates at the Sunset Park prison began fighting with each other around 2:50 p.m., the Federal Bureau of Prisons said. Prison staff performed “life-saving measures” and called for emergency medical services, which took Cordero to a nearby hospital, where he died, the BOP said in a news release Wednesday.
