Second ‘Buffalo Bridge’ barge to cross Lockport Friday morning | News

The second canal barge containing pieces of the Ralph Wilson Park Bridge is expected to pass through Lockport’s E-34 and E-35 locks between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Friday, according to social media posts from Carver Companies, the marine and construction company transporting the barges.

The barge was docked in Albion overnight Thursday and pushed from Rochester to complete delivery of the bridge, which was made in Italy and shipped to New York state in pieces.

The first barge, pushed by the tug CMT Otter, arrived in Lockport around 7 a.m. Tuesday, day 716, and continued to Ralph Wilson Park on Lake Erie in downtown Buffalo.

The 266-foot Ralph Wilson Park Pedestrian Bridge will be built over I-190. A statement from the Ralph Wilson Park Conservancy said, “This bridge, when installed, will connect neighborhoods to a heritage park that will transform the waterfront for people now and in the future.”

Construction on the 100-acre waterfront park along Lake Erie in downtown Buffalo began in 2022.

The park was inspired by Imagine LaSalle, a “community initiative” to make the former LaSalle Park a year-round destination.
