Michigan man extradited from Mexico faces trial for alleged sexual assault of minors

A Branch County man faces prison time after allegedly giving meth to two minors and sexually abusing them.

In 2019, 46-year-old Anthony Cuyler was charged by the Branch County District Attorney’s Office with the alleged sexual abuse of two girls, ages 11 and 12, according to Attorney General Dana Nessel.

He had been fleeing from police for years but was found in Mexico and returned to Branch County in June, department officials said.

Since Thursday, Cuyler has been on trial for the following charges:

  • Three counts of first-degree sexual abuse
  • A case of supplying meth to minors
  • A case of meth possession
  • One count of possession of ammunition by a felon

“Victims of sexual violence have a right to see their abusers brought to justice, and in some cases that requires extraordinary and unusual efforts,” Nessel said. “I am grateful to local law enforcement, Branch County prosecutors, and especially the U.S. Marshals Service for bringing this man home to face his criminal responsibility.”

The Attorney General’s Office is expected to take over the prosecution in this case.

Cuyler is expected back in court on August 12.
