A heat warning is again in effect for the Phoenix metropolitan area this weekend

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – There were scattered light showers in parts of the Valley early this morning. Only a few hundredths of an inch of rainfall was measured in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Surprise, Goodyear and Mesa.

The early morning drizzle and cloud cover did little to keep our afternoon temperatures from rising above 43 degrees again. This is the 28th day at or above 43 degrees, well above the annual average of 21 days.

We also had a low of 93 degrees, which is our 20th morning with lows at or above 90 degrees. Guys, on average we should have about 7 temperatures like that per year!

Gusty and dusty weather is expected late Thursday in the outer edges of the valley. It will collide with some outflow boundaries, so thunderstorms are possible in the valley. Otherwise, our main headline is again First Alert Weather Days, starting tomorrow with exceptionally high heat.

An extreme heat warning has been issued, lasting from 10:00 a.m. Friday to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, with highs of between 46 and 46 degrees Celsius expected in the hottest areas.

As the high pressure system moves to the northeast of the state, the chance of storms remains low through Monday night.

Also keep in mind that ozone levels remain hazardous to health, so a high air pollution warning is in effect for Thursday and all of Friday.

The Valley will be a little cooler next week as the chance of storms increases with moisture moving in to the surface. Highs will continue to be 110 degrees or higher every weekday.
