Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Parts of Metro Atlanta – WSB-TV Channel 2

Storms are moving through parts of northern Georgia and have the potential to become severe.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of Paulding and Cobb counties until 6 p.m.

Brad Nitz, Chief Meteorologist, Storm Response Team 2 It indicates that thunderstorms are capable of heavy rain, frequent lightning and gusty winds are possible this afternoon.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Showers and thunderstorms this afternoon; highs around 90
  • Cold front stalls over north Georgia Friday and into the weekend, with periods of showers and thunderstorms likely
  • Cooler temperatures: highs in the 80s Friday and weekend

Lightning caused problems in the south metro Atlanta area Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters believe lightning caused a fire at an apartment in East Point that left about 75 people homeless. About 50 miles (80 kilometers) south in Pike County, the pastor of Zebulon United Methodist Church told Channel 2 that the church’s steeple caught fire after being struck by lightning.
