Brentwood woman attacked and seriously injured while walking with her newborn, police say

According to police, a woman was walking with her one-month-old daughter in Brentwood when a man approached her, grabbed her body and allegedly made sexually suggestive gestures before punching her in the face several times.

Abraham Shily, a 26-year-old Los Angeles man, was arrested Thursday as a suspect in the assault reported earlier this week, Los Angeles police said in a news release. He approached the victim around 4:40 p.m. as she was pushing her baby in a stroller near Gretna Green Way and Mayfield Avenue, police said. He allegedly attacked her, causing serious injuries.

“The suspect approached the victim from behind, grabbed her waist with both hands and simulated sexual acts so that his hips physically touched the victim,” the LAPD’s new press release states. “The victim turned around and punched the suspect in the face, who then punched the victim in the face multiple times, causing him to fall to the ground and sustain serious injuries.”

The attacker then fled toward Montana Avenue, police said.

Detectives later identified Shily as the suspect, took him into custody and booked him on suspicion of assault.
