Wyandotte police discover cocaine and homemade bomb in car during traffic stop

Police in Wyandotte said they discovered a homemade bomb during a traffic stop Wednesday evening.

According to a post on Facebook, a patrol car stopped the vehicle around 10:40 p.m. for a minor reason.

Officers said they noticed discrepancies while talking to the two men inside and continued their investigation.

During their investigation, police discovered that the men were transporting a homemade bomb containing shrapnel.

Officers arrested the two men for possession of an explosive device, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of cocaine.

“This type of device is designed to do one thing: kill or injure people. Shrapnel is designed to increase the lethality of the device; therefore, it is safe to assume the intent was malicious. However, thanks to the excellent police work of Officer Tyler Groat, Officer Rasmussen, and Officer Saltsman, this device will never hurt anyone. Additionally, we must thank the Dearborn Police Department Bomb Disposal Unit for their excellent work in quickly assisting our officers. The Dearborn Police Department Bomb Disposal Unit officers are true professionals!” the police said on Facebook.
