A man who supplied a 14-year-old girl with alcohol before raping her has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

Aluwas Razak approached the girl in Leicester city centre, befriended her, bought her food and took her to the cinema on July 15, 2023.

According to officials, he then took her to a boarding house in the Hinckley Road area of Leicester and sexually abused her.

At Leicester Crown Court, 30-year-old Razak was found guilty of two counts of sexual abuse of a child and rape.

Extreme courage

Razak, of Stretton Road in Leicester, was found after officers searched CCTV footage to find the suspect’s face, Leicestershire Police said.

The surveillance camera showed him withdrawing money from an ATM. It later turned out that this was the money he had used to pay for the room.

The footage also showed him buying vodka at a nearby store that same evening.

While one of the detectives working on the case was out trying to establish his identity, Razak was observed on the street entering a property.

After the verdict on Tuesday, Det. Insp. Kevin Hames said: “Razak approached a young girl who was alone and, having gained her trust, abused that power to commit the most gruesome crimes.

“During her ordeal, the girl showed incredible strength.

“It took extraordinary courage for her to share the details of the incident so that officers and staff could conduct a thorough investigation.”

In addition to his 11-year prison sentence, Razak received a four-year extension to his suspended sentence and a restraining order to protect him from sexual abuse.

He was also placed on the sex offenders register.
