Sheriff releases new video of shooting that killed 4-year-old girl

SAN ANTONIO — We’re getting a closer, clearer look at the two gunmen who opened fire on a family’s home in northeast Bexar County Wednesday night, killing a 4-year-old girl and wounding her parents and two young siblings.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar released home surveillance camera videos of the suspects and their getaway vehicle during a news conference Thursday in hopes of generating leads that could help catch the couple.

“This was not a drive-by shooting with shots fired from the street. They wanted to get out and get really close,” Salazar said while showing a video of the men running toward the house and firing thirty shots. “They wanted to pour so much lead into the house that they would cause maximum damage and kill someone.”

A four-year-old girl was killed and her mother, father and siblings aged seven and eight are now in hospital. They were all killed at their home on Windsor Hollow Dr. shot near Walzez Road. and New World Dr. on Wednesday around 7 p.m. when two men began firing 7.62 rounds from small Draco AK47 wooden stock rifles.

“As soon as the rounds come out of the gun, they start to wobble, and when they hit, they hit flat,” Salazar explained. “It’s a devastating wound that causes this, so you can imagine coming into contact with a little girl, 4 years old.”

A neighbor who did not want to be named described the scene as frightening. “After the shots, we immediately heard screams,” the woman said. “At first I was very scared because I knew there were a lot of children in the area.”

Investigators also took a closer look at the shooters’ getaway vehicle, which was believed to be a dark gray Inifiniti Q50. The sheriff wants as many people as possible to see these images and videos.

“It’s just something we can’t let happen to anyone, especially a 4-year-old child who has nothing to do with anything,” he said.

The surviving victims are still in hospital. But at last check, the sheriff said her condition was improving. In the meantime, he says, multiple units – a large part of the sheriff’s office – are working to find these shooters.

“Will it be my great pleasure to charge these two men with aggravated murder in due course? It absolutely will,” the sheriff said. “I can promise you that.”
