San Francisco police search for man who blocked Waymo, attacked mentally impaired man – NBC Bay Area

San Francisco police are searching for a man who blocked a Waymo vehicle and then attacked a man who recorded the encounter on video earlier this month.

On July 5 at approximately 1 a.m., police were stopped in the 2300 block of Buchanan Street for a report of a person lying on the ground. The adult male victim was unconscious and had life-threatening injuries, including a skull fracture. Officers rendered aid and paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital.

The victim provided investigators with a video that allegedly showed an unknown male suspect blocking a Waymo vehicle and yelling at the vehicle. The Waymo vehicle was occupied by a passenger with whom the victim was speaking.

Police have not identified the passenger. After a few minutes, the victim told the suspect that he should drive the car away. The suspect then walked away from the car and lunged at the man, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect fell again and the victim fell to the ground again, causing the suspect to attack the man.

According to the victim’s family, the man is mentally impaired and visibly handicapped.

The suspect is a man, approximately 25 to 30 years old, with medium skin tone and facial hair. He was last seen wearing a dark baseball cap worn backwards, a black jacket, a blue shirt, light blue jeans, white sneakers and carrying a white bag.
