Shooting investigation leads to arrest of four Rockford teens | MyStateline

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) – Rockford police investigated a shooting Wednesday night and arrested four juveniles who were carrying firearms and what police described as an “AK-47 style pistol.”

Officers from the department’s Specialized Community Oriented Police Enforcement (SCOPE) team were responding to an incident involving reckless discharge of petrol earlier in the evening and spotted the suspect vehicle in the Harrison and Stowmarket area at around 9.15pm.


According to police, two loaded firearms, the aforementioned automatic pistol, ammunition and an empty cartridge case were found inside the vehicle.

18-year-old Javius ​​​​Catlin was arrested and charged with reckless conduct.

Nazir Haywood, 18, was charged with reckless use of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and failure to have a firearm owner’s identification card.

Kevontae Jones, 18, was charged with reckless use of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and failure to have a firearms license.

A 17-year-old teenager was charged with reckless discharge of a weapon, hindering identification, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, failure to identify as a firearm owner and probation violation.

All four have been transferred to detention centers and are awaiting the outcome of the pre-trial detention hearing.
